Appointments

Before requesting an appointment with one of our clinicians, it may be worth looking at our self-referrals page to check if a surgery appointment is needed for the service you require.

How to Request an Appointment

You can request an appointment in the following ways:

When you book an appointment the receptionist will ask you to give brief details of the problem so that they can ‘sign post’ you to most appropriate clinician for your needs. You do not have to give details if they are personal, but it does help to identify the best way to help you.

If you need to see the clinician again, please make your appointment before leaving the surgery.

For acute or urgent problems you may be offered an appointment or a telephone consultation with a nurse practitioner rather than a doctor. Nurse practitioners are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly. This will help avoid delays for other patients who also have routine booked appointments.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

Trainee Doctors

Laurel House is now a training Practice, meaning we have trainee GP’s with us for various periods of time.  It may be likely that you have an appointment with a trainee in the future.  All trainee GP’s are supervised throughout their placement with us. As part of their training and assessment they are required to video record a number of their consultations and provide these to be assessed.

If your consultation is selected to be recorded, we will not do so without contacting you prior to your consultation and obtaining your consent for this, we will either call you or send a text message.

Please note that;

  • You do not have to agree to your consultation with the doctor being recorded. If you do not want us to record the consultation, this is not a problem at all, and will not affect the care you receive in in any way.
  • If you do give your consent, then you will have the opportunity to withdraw this at any time in the future, including immediately after the consultation.
  • The recording is only of you and the doctor talking together. Intimate examinations will not be recorded, and the camera/recorder will be switched off on request.

All recordings are carried out according to guidelines issued by the General Medical Council and will be stored securely in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). They will be deleted by 26 weeks (182 days) of the recording taking place.
